DIY Art!

Pinterest is pretty amazing.  We all suddenly feel like we must clean everything with vinegar, decorate with mason jars, and exercise because of pictures of toned women.  We all are guilty. :)  The best part for me is the inspiration to DIY crafty stuff!!  My newest pinterest-inspired DIY project is this geometric painting!  My version is the blue-green one above... and below is where I got my inspiration :)

So here's what you'll need:
  • Pretty paint colors
  • Paintbrush
  • Painters tape
  • Canvas
  • Paper towel
  • Patience!

First, take your pretty paint colors and go crazy on your canvas. There is no method here, just do whatever you think looks pretty together! This could be a good project to get kids involved!
Cut off about 5-6 inches or so of painters tape (whatever length you want will work!)  Unless you have thin painters tape, you might need to cut the tape in half.  Again, there's no right or wrong here, it's just more of the look I was trying to achieve. :)

Next start taping the pattern at one side.  Try to keep a 45 degree angle. Make sure there is a little gap in between the tape.
Keep on taping...
Do not shoot for perfection here, you will drive yourself nuts if you make the lines perfect.  Just try to keep a little bit of space between the pieces of tape and try to keep the pattern close.

If your lines do start to get a little too cooked, try to do a row that is lined up to a straight line on your canvas.  This method seemed to help me out.

Keep on taping until you've covered the whole canvas!

Pull off a few random pieces of tape (pic below shows what I mean).
Next, start to paint!  I think a neutral color would probably work best but you can pick whatever color you think will compliment your painting!  I just used a small foam brush here.

Now comes the fun part... revealing your art! :)  Peeling off each piece of tape was exciting to see what pretty colors laid underneath!

And there you have it!  Your very own fancy schmancy looking diy art!

If you want, you can go over the finished product to make it look a little more distressed like the original inspiration picture... I think it helped polish off the look.To do this I just dabbed a scrunched paper towel in my neutral paint and kinda dabbed/rubbed small amounts of paint all over until it looked good.

Yay for DIY art!

a little catch up

I've been slacking on the blog updates so allow me to braindump random little accomplishments and milestones, with lots of cute pictures :)

Little man is now 2 1/2 months old! Some things he is doing now....

-Sucking on his hands.  Well, more like slobbering all over his little fists. :)

-Lifting up his head more during tummy time.  The boy is getting good and strong!  He looks like a turtle and a little bobble head at the same time!  So adorable :)

-He is talking and giggling more!  He only gets int he mood once or twice a day, usually early in the day, and then late at night right before bed.  He's seriously so darn cute!

-I just love it when he looks right at me, I talk to him, and he just beams a HUGE SMILE and giggles!  There's just nothing better!

-He is getting better at following objects, mostly people!  He looks at faces and will follow you if you walk around him!

-He caught his first cold :( He sounded so congested!  We visited the doctor and she made sure it was just a regular little cold.  It took about 2 weeks for him to kick it, but lots of love, staying in, and the humidifier helped a lot!
At the doctors office!

-He finally fits in 0-3 clothes!  YAY!  He is actually so long his feet already reach the bottom of most of his clothes! Some of them his feet stretch OUT of them!
Too tall!

-He is a big wiggle worm!  He usually stays in the same spot in his crib in his sleep, but lately he's moving around more.  For example, this is how I found him this morning :)

And this is how I found him a few weeks ago... busting out of his swaddler!

-He lets me sleep through the night!  AMAZING!!!  I didnt think this would be happening yet!  We usually go to bed around 11pm, he might wake me up around 3 or 5am, but while I'm pumping milk he falls asleep again until around 7am.  It's pretty wonderful!

I am just loving every moment with this lil man.  He is so amazing and I am so thankful he's a part of our family!  Enjoy the bunches of pictures below!!
